Felix and later Dan, Dubravko, and John founded Group4 Labs just outside Stanford in mid 2003 with perhaps the naïve intent of doing some good in the world with their little knowledge-lot in life. That story is still being written. We, the founders and employees of the company, own 100% of the company.
Broadly, we aim to bring to commercial practice, innovative and unusual basic materials science ideas that can dramatically impact the way we live our lives. We're continuously looking for unmet needs in the world where we can make a significant difference. Today, our primary technology platform is GaN-on-Diamond with which we are delivering to enter a number markets in need of improved energy efficiency materials.
The company has steadily grown in recent years – with funding from various strategic customers, and SBIR Phase-I/II/III government grants from the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH), the National Eye Institute, the Department of Applied Research Projects Agency (DARPA), the U.S. Air Force Research Labs (AFRL), the Missile Defense Agency, the U.S. Navy, and NASA-JPL, and NASA-GSFC. In May 2009, the company employed a team of 12 (including 9 Ph.D.s) – and operated out of a Menlo Park, CA headquarters. Core technical operations of the company’s are based in Berkeley, California, and a yet-to-be setup mass production facility in North Smithfield, Rhode Island.
As of May 2009, the company had just started shipping small quantities of 2” wafers of RF GaN-on-Diamond to selected partners.
